cheap present was formed in 2013 as a collaborative project between melbourne artists env and luis cl serving as an outlet for the pair to experiment outside of their main musical acts and subsequent genre limitations.
cheap present’s music is mostly recorded live in the studio with minimal overdubs and draws sounds and influences from various sources. using old keyboards and samples mixed with digital high definition sounds, the duo create a mixture of raw elements from the techno and dance tradition with a nod to classical melodies and industrial music. each song features heavy drums to highlight the melodic playfulness of their bass, synth arrangements and humorous but expressive vocals and song titles. the anterior mini lp follows on from the duo’s wet garden cassette earlier in the year and presents a collection of material looking back from the group’s creation in 2013 to more recent output. the pair’s evolution is clearly on display on the this 12 inch, from initial jam based songs such as waterproofyouth and bergwasser, which have a spontaneous metallic edge, to new songs such as rooftops, which display a more meticulous and mature approach to production.

aula magna records presents atmen by mekas, a storming record that reveals the artist s latest techno explorations in full effect, featuring stockholm ltd label boss par grindvik as guest remixer. a techno statement shaped by melodic and rhythmic interactions that draw the listener into the artist’s profound sound world.
the a-side opens with the powerful beat of clark nova, a cut that moves forward with a modulating synth line and simple but cleverly designed percussions. this is followed by unknown soldier, an intense techno weapon that reflects the distinctive sound of mekas.

lumiÞreslanuit (alias lln) is glad to welcome back paris-based music composer, live performer and dj vadim svoboda for the 10th release of the label. in addition to be a close friend of the lln crew and a regular of the label’s showcases, vadim svoboda has also become a key artist of the label. indeed, it’s with him that it has all started, about three years ago, when he released his syntherapie ep (lln000) on the label. nine releases (plus one) later, we’re glad to have him again on board, this time with another format as he’s about to release his first album seed (lln009+1). seed is made up of two records: roots (vinyl 1: lln009) and canopy (vinyl 2: lln009+1). whereas roots sounds like a mini-album in the album where melodic and melancholic notes alternates with dark and strong beats, canopy seems - according to its composition - to refer directly to his syntherapie ep, even though the listener might find the same inspirations in both records.

limited to 300 copies! following his recent releases on tartelet records and oye, uffe kicks off the nos classics label with a record consisting of three mutated disco tracks that marks the start of his own new copenhagen-based label. run together with fellow tartelet affiliates vktr and jeppe wolmer (of vivian international) the first records a-side is a dubbed out percussive testament to the darkest and saddest times of uffe s life. a2 is a melodic and dreamy homage to one certain apartement located on the lijnbaangracht in the jordaan area in amsterdam. on the top floor of this worn down old house there was light to be found in these dark times. on the flip-side tings gets trippy. the title track finds uffe deeply intertwined in an occult-like bass-heavy ritual. an attempt to escape reality and cure the scandinavian misanthropy and the grey weather it comes with. a twelve minute voodoo disco tool perfectly crafted for a dancefloor which most probably does not exist.

disco fruit s sublabel continues to turn out smooth and slick deep, funky house, and this time around tonbe is on hand with the goods to get the people grooving. broken heart features rachel on vocals and some sweet saxophone, hitting the spot just right for universally appealing house music. street groove is a more forthright, clubby affair where the drums take the lead and the keys lock into a loopy late night roll. feel so good features some more choice vocal turns with urgent melodic hooks, and then something jazzy swoops in at the end with some proper new jersey heat to get your body popping.

dutch dj, producer and dekmantel family member young marco kicks things off with a beautiful, melodic, waterfall of a track. it’s a record you’ll want to play out on a yacht, while sipping on a rosé under the warm, afternoon sun. 2017 has been nothing short of an epic year for marco, having already compiled the second in the selectors compilation series for dekmantel, in addition to having released the second lp as gaussian curve, alongside gigi masin, and johnny nash. marco is in good company, as dutch-based artist suzanne kraft crafts a delightful, ambient-meets-house, summer groove, that lives at the most relaxed of paces, sitting side-by-side on the a-side. flip the record over and dekmantel favourite, and dutch house institute tom trago finds himself in a moment of blissful summer haze, with soft, sonic-pallets and waving melodies. concluding the record is long serving dekmantel mainstay, and rednose distrikt main-man awanto 3 with an analogue, and feel-good, electro-beat rhythm.

following a superb remix of hakimonus æinsular realms in 2015, ed davenports inland alias returns to deepa & biris black crow recordings with a brand new ep for the labels tenth release. having played a key role in the relaunch of functions infrastructure new york imprint, in addition to operating his own widley admired counterchange label, davenports techno project has brought the englishman to wider recognition as one of the genres most talented producers. the new eps three original tracks finds inland exploring all facets of his diverse sound: a1, æmetatlantic is driving, acid-laced techno, æcosinaxis, employs electro beat patterns and idm aesthetics, b-side opener, ælagoon9, is a melodic detroit-indebted big room weapon. closing out the ep is a remix of from 3kz aka italian duo z.i.p.p.o & kaelan, the latter of whom provided one of black crows standout releases so far under his 2030 alias with last years timeworm ep. their remix of æcosinaxis follows hot on the heels of their debut album æparallel reflections, released earlier this year on z.i.p.p.o.s fides imprint.

patrick weblin gives us this very special ep. 2 original tracks named after his 2 sons, so a lot of time and heart has gone into making this ep with a superb remix from iuly.b. “tadhg’s groove” give us solid house drums, percs and hats but its the pads and bassline that gives it the movement throughout the track, taking you to another level of space and conscious. iuly.b’s remix is down right tasty. it takes you on a little trip and makes you loose track of time all while grooving to this great remix. “ollie’s groove” is something a bit special, big 909 kick combined with 808 tops but this time some melodic synths add a very soulful and elegant sound.
